QMJHL: McGinn has big night as Gatineau hammers Oceanic

Forward Tye McGinn scored twice and added three assists as the Gatineau Olympiques clobbered the Rimouski Oceanic 9-4 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Sunday.

Denis Kindl and Christian Ouellet-Martel scored twice while Thomas Middup, Benjamin Laliberte and Joshua Domingues each added singles.

Petr Straka scored twice for Rimouski and Ryan Kavanagh and Jonathan Lavoie added one apiece.

Gatineau goaltender Maxime Clermont made 24 saves for the win while at the other end Philippe Tremblay and Matthew Dopud combined to stop 22 shots.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Quebec 5, Lewiston 3; Baie-Comeau 1, Chicoutimi 1; P.E.I. 7, Halifax 4; Moncton 2, Acadie-Bathurst 1; Montreal 4, Victoriaville 1; Drummondville 4, Rouyn-Noranda 0; and Saint John 4, Cape Breton 3.

At Rimouski, Que., the Olympiques' power play struck early and often against the Oceanic.

McGinn, Kindl and Domingues each scored on the man advantage in the first period.

Middup scored 2:35 into the second before McGinn and Ouellet-Martel added two more power-play goals to give Gatineau (2-0-0) a 6-0 lead.

Kavanagh and Straka replied with power-play goals of their own for Rimouski (1-1-0), but a late shorthanded goal by Ouellet-Martel ended the period with Gatineau up 7-2.

Gatineau and Rimouski then traded goals in the third. Straka scored the final power-play goal of the night at 13:07.

Kindl scored his second of the night at 14:36 but Rimouski's Lavoie found the net just 14 seconds later.

Ahead by three, Olympiques forward Laliberte potted in his lone goal of the night with five seconds left to secure the win.

Remparts 5, Mainiacs 3

At Quebec City, Maxime Gravel scored twice as the Remparts scored two late goals in the third period to beat Lewiston.

Marc-Olivier Vallerand, Jonathan Audy-Marchessault and Jason Rajotte scored for Quebec (1-0-1).

Sebastien Trudeau, Samuel Carrier and Alexis Piette each had singles for the Mainiacs (1-1-0).

Drakkar 4, Sagueneens 1

At Baie-Comeau, Que., Nathan Dunnett made 19 saves as the Drakkar (1-1-0) coasted past Chicoutimi.

The Drakkar's Philip Richer, Marc-Olivier Mimar, Simon Olsson and Jordan Bernier each scored singles.

Antoine Roussel scored the lone goal for the Sagueneens (0-1-1).

Rocket 7, Mooseheads 4

At Charlottetown, Brandon Street scored a hat trick to lead P.E.I. past Halifax.

Eric Bouchard, Samson Mahbod, Jarrad Struthers and Jordan Escott each scored one apiece for the Rocket (2-0-0), with Escott adding four assists.

Captain Tomas Knotek scored twice for the Mooseheads (0-2-0), while Alex Lemieux and Konrad Abeltshauser each had one.

Wildcats 2, Titan 1

At Bathurst, N.B., Wendell Vye made 32 saves as Moncton edged the Titan.

Pierre-Marc Lessard and Devon MacAusland scored for the Wildcats (1-1-0). Eric Faille scored the lone goal for Acadie-Bathurst (0-1-1).

Junior 4, Tigres 1

At Victoriaville, Que., Trevor Parkes scored twice as Montreal cruised past the Tigres.

Jeremy Gouchie and Guillaume Asselin each scored one for the Junior (1-1-0).

Brandon Hynes had the lone goal for Victoriaville (1-1-0).

Voltigeurs 4, Huskies 0

At Drummondville, Que., Antoine Tardif needed to stop just 20 shots to earn a shutout against Rouyn-Noranda.

Alexandre Comtois, Benoit Levesque, Marc-Olivier Vachon and Sean Couturier scored for the Voltigeurs (2-0-0).

Mickael Audette made 30 saves for the Huskies (0-2-0).

Sea Dogs 4, Screaming Eagles 3

At Sydney, N.S., Marc-Antoine Gelinas made 39 saves for Saint John.

Sea Dogs (2-0-0) forward Olivier Ouellet scored twice, while Nathan Beaulieu and Tomas Jurco also scored.

Stephen Horyl scored twice and Brad Cuzner had one for Cape Breton (1-1-0).
