QMJHL: Wildcats' Pettersson scores to end 11-round shootout

Daniel Pettersson scored the only goal of a shootout in the 11th round as the Moncton Wildcats beat the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 5-4 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Sunday.

The goal spoiled an excellent performance from Cape Breton goalie Olivier Roy, who made 52 saves in regulation and overtime and 10 in the shootout.

Wendell Vye made 27 saves for Moncton before a spectacular performance in the shootout, where he stopped all 11 shooters he faced.

The game was one of three that went into a shootout Sunday after Acadie-Bathurst beat P.E.I. 3-2 and Drummondville edged Victoriaville 4-3.

Also Sunday, Saint John hammered Halifax 6-1.

At Moncton, N.B., Pettersson also scored in regulation for Moncton (3-1-0), while Brandon Gormley, Pierre-Marc Lessard and Scott Brannon had the other goals.

Cory MacIntosh, Viktor Hertzberg, Taylor MacDougall and Nick MacNeil replied for the Screaming Eagles (1-1-2).

Titan 3 Rocket 2 (SO)

At Bathurst, N.B., Eric Faille scored the shootout winner as the Titan beat P.E.I.

Vincent Couture and Julien Tremblay scored in regulation for Acadie-Bathurst (2-1-1).

Benjamin Casavant and Brandon MacLean replied for the Rocket (2-0-2).

Voltigeurs 4 Tigres 3 (SO)

At Victoriaville, Que., Jonathan Brunelle scored the shootout winner in the sixth round as Drummondville nipped the Tigres.

Sean Couturier scored twice in regulation for Drummondville (4-0-0), while Marc-Antoine Desnoyers also scored.

Jonathan Bonneau had two goals and Phillip Danault scored one for Victoriaville (2-2-1).

Sea Dogs 6 Mooseheads 1

At Saint John, N.B., Steven Anthony scored a hat trick to lead the Sea Dogs over Halifax.

Danick Gauthier added two goals for Saint John (4-0-0), while Tomas Jurco also scored.

Travis Randell replied for the Mooseheads (0-4-0).
