WHL: Boomer has goal, assist as Ice beat Oil Kings in SO

Steele Boomer had a goal and an assist and Jesse Ismond scored the only goal in the shootout as the Kootenay Ice edged the Edmonton Oil Kings 3-2 in Western Hockey League action Wednesday.

The Oil Kings (0-1-1) scored two early goals. Dylan Wruck scoring on a fluke shot that landed over a sprawling Nathan Lieuwen 2:04 into the game.

Just over a minute later, with Ismond in the penalty box, Brent Raedeke paced the visitors to a 2-0 lead with a wrist shot that beat Lieuwen.

The Ice (2-1-0) got on the board with a power-play goal of their own half-way through the period when Boomer deflected Hayden Rintoul's point shot as the penalty to Drew Nichol expired.

After a scoreless middle frame rookie Brock Montgomery scored his first WHL goal on a scramble around Torrie Jung to tie the game.

Elsewhere in the WHL, Prince Albert beat Swift Current 3-1 and Regina edged Saskatoon 4-3 in a shootout.

At Cranbrook, B.C., Lieuwen stopped 27 of 29 shots including all three in the shootout to get his second win of the season while Jung was solid in stopping 36 of 38 shots in taking the shootout loss.

At Prince Albert, Sask., Igor Revenko scored twice and added an assist as the Raiders beat Swift Current.

Pats 4 Blades 3 (SO)

At Regina, Matt Strueby scored twice in regulation and added a shootout goal as the Pats beat Saskatoon.
