Chris Carrozzi had all the answers to the Peterborough Petes' sizzling offence on Friday night.
The top goaltender in the Ontario Hockey League posted his first shutout of the season to lead the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors to a 2-0 win over Peterborough.
The 19-year-old Carrozzi, an Atlanta Thrashers draft pick, turned back 19 shots to lower his league-leading goals-against average to 1.59 and improve his record to 3-1 in five starts.
"My defence did a really good job and they let me see a lot of the shots," Carrozzi said after the game as the Majors (5-2-0-0) won their third in a row. "It's different when you don't get a lot of shots because you've got to keep your head in the game and make sure you make the big save when you need to."
The Petes were coming off a seven-goal outburst against the Erie Otters in Peterborough on Thursday, but couldn't beat a Majors team considered among the better defensive clubs in the OHL.
"You can't fault our effort," Petes coach Ken McRae said.
"Essentially, we had three lines and seven defencemen. We competed and played hard against a tough team to compete against. We were six periods into our weekend and they were three deep and I think they had a bit fresher legs."
Elsewhere in the OHL it was: Saginaw 5 Sudbury 3; Brampton 4 Niagara 3 (SO); Guelph 2 Sault Ste. Marie 1; Kitchener 6 Owen Sound 2; London 2 Plymouth 1; Kingston 3 Ottawa 1; Sarnia 9 Belleville 4; and Oshawa 3 Erie 0.
At Mississauga, Ont., Jordan Mayer, with his sixth goal of the season, put the Majors up 1-0 while short-handed early in the second period. Rob Flick gave Mississauga some breathing room when he scored a power-play goal with just over two minutes remaining in the third period.
Peterborough netminder Jason Missiaen stopped 35 shots. The loss ended a two-game winning streak for the Petes (6-4-0-0).
