Otters 5, Storm 2
ERIE, Pa. -- Shane Owen needed a strong performance. The Erie Otters needed a win.
Both occurred on Wednesday night, as Owen's 30 saves headlined the Otters' 5-2 victory against the Guelph Storm in Ontario Hockey League action.
Owen recorded his first win since Sept. 26 in Saginaw.
Meanwhile, the Otters (5-7-3) crept closer to the .500 mark with a solid effort in the final game of a season-high, six-game home stand.
Owen's struggles early in games continued against the Storm, as Peter Holland scored a power-play goal 1:37 into the first period on Guelph's third shot of the night.
The Otters tied the score at 1-1 five minutes later. Mike Cazzola spun and fired a low shot past Storm goaltender Matt Hoyle.
The Storm (8-5-1) took a 2-1 lead when Tyler Carroll deflected Ben Chiarot's shot from the point.
Andrew Yogan tied the game 2-2 when he grabbed the rebound of his own shot behind the net and then skated in front to slip a backhand past Hoyle 3:44 into the second.
Then the Otters took their first lead of the night late in the second, when Zack Torquato's bad-angle shot squeezed between Hoyle and the right post with 3:38 left. Guelph was serving a delay of game penalty at the time.
Torquato sealed the win with his second goal of the game at the 15:12 mark, followed by Cazzola's empty-net score.
Owen stopped all of the Storm's 13 shots in the third period.
