OTTAWA -- Ryan Spooner had no points in regulation, but he was the only player to score in the shootout of the Peterborough Petes' 5-4 win over the Ottawa 67's on Monday.

Matt Puempel had a goal and an assist for the Petes (9-9-0) in his first Ontario Hockey League overtime game.

Part of a school-day promotion, the game started at 10:30 a.m. and a packed house of mostly children made the Urbandale Centre perhaps the loudest place in Ottawa.

"It was a nice experience and a lot of teams in the league don't get to do this," Puempel said of the early start. "You had to get your legs under you nice and early but after that it was back to normal other than I think it was the loudest building I ever played in."

Zack Kassian, Adam Sedlak and Jamie Doornbosch also scored for the Petes and Justin Larson had three assists.

Ryan Martindale had a goal and an assist for the 67's (4-9-4) including the tying marker at 19:54 of the third period that sent the game to extra time.

Tyler Toffoli, Thomas Nesbitt and Andrew Merrett also scored for the 67's, who saw a 3-1 second-period lead slip away when the Petes scored two power-play goals, Nesbitt receiving a double minor for high sticking late in the period.

"They got a couple of goals on some bad bounces we had," Puempel said. "That power play was a big turning point and got us energized heading into the third period."
