CALGARY -- The Western Hockey League is taking its game outdoors.
The league announced Thursday that the Calgary Hitmen will host the Regina Pats at McMahon Stadium on Feb. 21.
The WHL's first-ever outdoor game will take place a day after the NHL's Heritage Classic between the Calgary Flames and the Montreal Canadiens.
"We are extremely excited about the great opportunity this game presents for both our fans and players to be part of such a unique and unforgettable experience," Hitmen general manager Kelly Kisio said in a release.
The WHL outdoor game will feature the Hitmen and Pats wearing special theme jerseys in honour of each city's hockey history.
