TORONTO - The Ontario Hockey League has come down hard on the Windsor Spitfires for violating player benefit and recruitment rules.

The team has been fined $400,000 and is losing five draft picks as a result.

An OHL spokesman wouldn't give specifics on the rule violations.

The league said it conducted two separate investigations into the matter.

The Spitfires will forfeit first-round picks in the OHL draft in 2013, 2014 and 2016 as well as second-round selections in 2015 and 2017.
