PETERBOROUGH, Ont. -- Michael Giugovaz made 40 saves to lead the Peterborough Petes to a 3-1 win over the Niagara IceDogs in the lone Ontario Hockey League game Tuesday.

Francis Menard was in on all three Petes goals, scoring once and adding two assists.

Slater Koekkoek had a goal and assist and Jonatan Tanus added a single for the Petes (2-5-0).

Steven Shipley got the lone goal for Niagara (5-3-0) while Christopher Festarini stopped 25 shots.

The Petes produced their best all-around effort of the season after general manager Dave Reid was fired earlier in the day.

Menard scored the only goal of the first period when he tapped in a rebound.

He then set up the only goal of the second. Derek Mathers made a nice play at his own blue line to slip the puck to Menard in stride. Menard carried the puck into the Niagara zone, drew both defenders then slid a pass to a trailing Koekkoek, who ripped a wrist shot just under the crossbar.

Shipley pulled the IceDogs within one in the third, but Tanus banged home a rebound for just the Petes second power-play goal of the year to provide some insurance.

Niagara got a power play with five minutes to play but Stephen Pierog helped kill it by blocking three shots and the Petes held on for the win.
