OHL: Frontenacs take out Petes

Billy Jenkins scored once and set up two more as the Kingston Frontenacs downed the visiting Peterborough Petes 7-3 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League play.

The 18-year-old winger was named the game's first star for his three-point outing, however it was a full-team effort that earned his club its fourth straight victory.

"Coach (Todd) Gill said before the game we had to focus on having four lines going tonight," said Jenkins. "All lines chipped in tonight, whether it was a goal or some good cycling down low, and I think that won us the game."

Marc Beckstead scored twice for the Frontenacs (11-9-0) while Ryan Kujawinksi, Samuel Schutt, Henri Ikonen and Sam Bennett each had a goal and an assist.

Zach Lorentz, Nick Ritchie and Stephen Nosad scored for the Petes (5-15-3), who now sit in last place in the East Division.

"It was a tough game for us," said Ritchie. "I thought we started out pretty good and then we kind of fell apart and took some bad penalties. And then ended up losing the game."

Mike Morrison made 31 saves for the win as Andrew D'Agostini turned away 38-of-45 shots in a losing cause.

Kingston went 1 for 7 on the power play while Peterborough scored once on two chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Brampton 4, Sault Ste. Marie 3; Guelph 7, Mississauga 2; Kitchener 3, Erie 1; London 5, Owen Sound 2; Oshawa 5, Belleville 1 and Sudbury 3, Sarnia 2 (SO).

At Kingston, Ont., Kujawinski opened the scoring for the Frontenacs 7:18 into the first period.

Ritchie responded for Peterborough with a power-play goal at 12:51, however Bennett scored in the final minute of the period to give Kingston a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Beckstead made it 3-1 with a goal on the man advantage at 6:58 of the second period.

Nosad scored three minutes later for the Petes, but Jenkins, Ikonen and Schutt all scored within a six-minute span to open the game up 6-2.

Lorentz made it 6-3 with a late second-period goal, however Beckstead added one more for the Frontenacs in the third period.

At Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Barclay Goodrow's goal at 15:01 of the third period was the eventual game-winner and Matej Machovsky made 30 saves as Brampton (10-8-5) won its fourth straight contest by edging the Greyhounds (9-12-1), who have lost six games in a row.

At Guelph, Ont., five Storm player's recorded three points apiece including Cody McNaughton, who scored three times, as Guelph (13-8-2) crushed Mississauga (14-6-1).

At Kitchener, Ont., Radek Faksa set up all three of his club's goals and Franky Palazzese turned aside 29 shots as the Rangers (14-5-2) picked up their sixth straight victory by defeating Erie (6-13-3).

Knights 5 Attack 2

At London, Ont., Seth Griffith had one goal and two assists, which extends his points streak to nine games and includes six goals and 20 points, as the Knights (15-5-2) beat Owen Sound (14-4-3) for its seventh win in as many outings.

Generals 5 Bulls 1

At Oshawa, Ont., Cole Cassels and Tyler Biggs each scored twice as the Generals (12-9-3) snapped a four-game losing streak by beating Belleville (11-7-3).

Wolves 3 Sting 2 (SO)

At Sudbury, Ont., Dominik Kahun scored the only goal of the shootout and Joel Vienneau made 24 saves as the Wolves (8-12-2) halted their five-game losing streak with a win over Sarnia (12-8-2).
