QMJHL: Mooseheads top Rocket without MacKinnon, Drouin

No Nathan MacKinnon? No Jonathan Drouin? No problem for the Halifax Mooseheads.

Dominic Beauchemin had a pair of goals as Halifax downed the P.E.I. Rocket 3-1 on Thursday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League play.

The Mooseheads were without 17-year-olds MacKinnon and Drouin, who were both named to Canada's national junior hockey team for the world championships in Russia later this month.

Matthew Boudreau had the other goal for the Mooseheads (26-3-2).

Josh Currie got P.E.I. (17-13-2) on the board early in the third period with a short-handed goal.

MacKinnon and Drouin are Halifax's top scorers. MacKinnon has 22 goals and 30 assists through 30 games, while Drouin has scored 19 times and earned 29 assists.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Drummondville 3 Quebec 2 (SO).

At Halifax, Zachary Fucale made 28 saves for the win. Antoine Bibeau started in the Rocket's net and stopped 23 of 26 shots in 33:02 of work. He was replaced by Maxime Lagace, who turned aside all nine shots he faced.

Voltigeurs 3 Remparts 2 (SO)

At Drummondville, Que., Marc-Olivier Brouillard scored the shootout winner as the Voltigeurs (18-13-1) slipped past Quebec (22-8-2).
