In his first start of the season Robert Steeves stopped 35-of-36 shots as the Gatineau Olympiques downed the host Val-d'Or Foreurs 3-1 on Saturday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

The 19-year-old, who was acquired from the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in the summer, was expected to start the year as Gatineau's number-one goaltender before going down with a left-knee injury in back in September.

In two seasons with the Titan, Steeves appeared in 68 games and went 35-19-6 with a 3.10 goals-against average and .898 save percentage.

Taylor Burke and Jonathan Bourcier each had a goal and an assist for the Olympiques (13-19-1), who have won back-to-back games, and Emile Pourier added two assists.

For 16-year-old Bourcier, it was his first-career QMJHL goal and earned him the game's first star.

Gabriel Bourret scored a single goal to round out Gatineau's offence.

Anthony Mantha scored the lone goal for the game for the Foreurs (16-16-3), who fall to 8-8-2 on home ice.

Mantha has scored in three straight outings and now has 28 goals and 50 points in 33 games, which moves him into the top-5 in QMJHL scoring.

Francois Tremblay turned aside 25 shots in a losing cause.

The power play didn't factor in for either club as Gatineau went 0 for 3 while Val-d'Or failed to score on six chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Halifax 8, Moncton 6 and Rouyn-Noranda 6, Blainville-Boisbriand 3.

At Val-d'Or, Que., the two clubs combined for 24 shots in the first period, however it wasn't until 7:16 of the second period that the game had its first goal.

Bourcier opened the scoring for Gatineau and Bourret and Burke scored 25 seconds apart to extend the Olympiques' lead to 3-0 heading into the third period.

Mantha scored for the Foreurs at 11:19 of the third, but Steeves stopped 10 shots in the final 20 minutes to preserve the victory.

Mooseheads 8 Wildcats 6

At Moncton, N.B., Christophe Lalonde scored four times for Moncton, but it wasn't enough as Matthew Boudreau scored three times and Darcy Ashley had two goals and three assists to help Halifax (28-3-2) beat the Wildcats (21-12-1).

Huskies 6 Armada 3

At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Jean-Sebastien Dea scored three times and Felix Caron added two goals as the Huskies (23-10-1) doubled up Blainville-Boisbriand (22-8-4) for their fifth win in a row.
