Etienne Boutet scored a natural hat trick and added an assist Wednesday as the Gatineau Olympiques thumped the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 7-0 in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Adam Chapman and Simon Tardif-Richard each added a goal and an assist for Gatineau (16-21-3), while Derek Sheppard and Deric Boudreau also scored.
Robert Steeves had to make just 22 saves to get the shutout for the Olympiques. Mikael Langlois and Taylor Burke chipped in with two assists apiece.
David Honzik stopped 49-of-56 shots in taking the loss for Cape Breton (9-26-7).
Elsewhere in the QMJHL it was: Halifax 7, Acadie-Bathurst 2; Val-d'Or 5, Drummondville 1; and Baie-Comeau 4, Sherbrooke 3.
At Sydney, N.S., Boutet opened the scoring at 12:37 of the first, added his second just under four minutes later and completed his hat trick at 17:24 of the middle period with a short-handed effort.
Gatineau added four more goals in the third period, with Chapman scoring at even strength before Tardif-Richard, Sheppard and Boudreau added goals on the power play.

At Bathurst, N.B., Matthew Boudreau scored twice and Luca Ciampini and Darcy Ashley each added a goal and three assists as Halifax (33-4-3) hammered the Titan (17-21-5).

At Val-d'Or, Que., Loik Poudrier had a goal and three assists as the Foreurs (21-17-3) got past Drummondville (23-15-3).

At Baie-Comeau, Que., Gabryel Paquin-Boudreau scored the winner with 2:24 left in regulation as the Drakkar (28-11-3) edged Sherbrooke (11-24-6).
