Sarault takes over OHL scoring lead, Sting down Colts

Charles Sarault took over the Ontario Hockey League points lead on Sunday as the Sarnia Sting downed the visiting Barrie Colts 6-5 in overtime.

The 20-year-old forward scored once and added four assists and the five-point outing gives him 85 points in 54 games. Sarault jumped over Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds' forward Ryan Sproul, who has 84 points in 54 games.

Reid Boucher scored twice for the Sting (30-21-3), including the winner, while Anthony DeAngelo had a goal and two assists.

Boucher now has 49 goals in 54 contests to lead all OHL skaters in scoring.

Brett Hargrave and Bryan Moore also scored for Sarnia and Alex Basso chipped in with two assists.

Mark Scheifele scored twice for the Colts (34-16-3), who have dropped back-to-back games, and Zach Hall and Steven Beyers each had three assists.

Since being returned from the Winnipeg Jets, Scheifele has produced six points in three games.

Aaron Ekblad, Josh MacDonald and Anthony Camara also scored to round out Barrie's offence.

Sarnia's JP Anderson stopped 32 of 37 shots for the win as Barrie's Mathias Niederberger made 24 saves in a losing cause.

Sarnia went 2 for 5 on the power play while Barrie scored three times on five chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Plymouth 5, Brampton 2; Kingston 3, Windsor 1; Kitchener 4, London 3; Belleville 6, Ottawa 4; Sarnia 6 and Oshawa 4, Sault Ste. Marie 2.

At Sarnia, Ont., MacDonald opened the scoring for Barrie 4:49 into the first period before Sarault responded for the Sting at 9:46.

Moore gave Sarnia a 2-1 lead, but Ekblad scored before the first period wrapped up and Scheifele regained the lead for Barrie 1:28 into the second.

Hargrave scored just 31 seconds later for the Sting, but Scheifele's second goal of the period put Barrie back up.

DeAngelo and Boucher responded less than three minutes apart to give Sarnia a 5-4 lead heading into the final period.

Camara forced overtime at 14:46 of the third, but Boucher scored the winner for the Sting just 1:05 into extra time.

At Kingston, Ont., Mike Morrison made 34 saves and Warren Steele's goal 1:26 into the third period stood up as the winner as the Frontenacs (21-26-5) snapped their 12-game winless streak by defeating Windsor (22-25-7).

At Kitchener, Ont., Tobias Rieder scored two goals, extending his point streak to 12 games, and Joel Vienneau turned away 36-of-39 shots as the Rangers (32-15-7) downed London (39-11-4), which has dropped three games in a row.

At Ottawa, Daniil Zharkov scored twice, Alan Quine had three assists and Malcolm Subban made 32 saves as Belleville (31-14-6) beat the 67's (15-35-4) for the fifth time in a row this season.

Generals 4 Greyhounds 2

At Oshawa, Ont., Daniel Althsuller stopped 33-of-35 shots and Colin Suellentrop had a goal and an assist as the Generals (31-19-4) doubled up Sault Ste. Marie (29-21-4) to move within two points of Belleville for top spot in the East Division.
