BELLEVILLE, Ont. -- Austen Brassard scored two goals, including the winner at 18:05 of the third period, as the Belleville Bulls edged the visiting Barrie Colts 3-2 on Friday in Ontario Hockey League playoff action.

With the game tied 2-2, Brassard banged home a rebound on the power play to put Belleville ahead 1-0 in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference final.

Stephen Silas also scored for the Bulls, who improved to 6-0-0 on home ice in the post-season, while Alan Quine chipped in with two assists.

Zach Hall and Aaron Ekblad scored for the Colts and Mark Scheifele had two assists to move him into second in playoff scoring with 18 points in nine games.

Malcolm Subban made 26 saves for the win as Mathias Niederberger turned away 38-of-41 shots in defeat.

Hall, a Belleville native, was left alone at the side of the net and connected on a cross-ice feed to put Barrie ahead at 2:54 of the first period.

Silas and Ekblad exchanged goals early in the second period before Brassard tied the game again for Belleville after cutting to the net and sliding the pack past Niederberger.

Belleville went 1 for 5 on the power play while Barrie scored once on three chances with the man advantage.

Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday when the Bulls host the Colts at the Yardmen Arena.
