WHL: Sanvido stars in shootout as Broncos edge Hurricanes

Connor Sanvido was the lone scorer in the shootout as the Swift Current Broncos edged the Lethbridge Hurricanes 3-2 on Tuesday in Western Hockey League action.

Coda Gordon and Colby Cave could not score for Swift Current in the first two rounds of the shootout, while Giorgio Estephan, Riley Sheen and Reid Duke came up short for Lethbridge.

Cave and Jay Merkley scored for the Broncos (8-8-1) in regulation time, while Landon Bow made 29 saves for the win.

Brady Ramsay and Riley Sheen supplied the offence for the Hurricanes (2-11-3). Corbin Boes stopped 39 shots in net for Lethbridge.

Neither team could score on the power play. Swift Current went 0 for 2 with the man advantage, while the Hurricanes 0 for 1.


Tigers 3 Raiders 1

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. -- Tyler Lewington's goal late in the second period stood as the winner as Medicine Hat topped the Raiders.

Jacob Doty scored in the first period for the Tigers (9-3-2), while captain Curtis Valk put the puck into an empty net in the third. Marek Langhamer made 21 saves for the win.

Reid Gardiner had the only Prince Albert (9-6-1) goal. Cole Cheveldave was solid in net, stopping 47 shots.


Giants 6 Cougars 5

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. -- Jackson Houck had a hat trick -- including the eventual winner -- as Vancouver held on for a win over the Cougars.

Brett Kulak scored and added two assists for the Giants (5-9-2), while Dalton Thrower and Dalton Sward had goals as well. Payton Lee made 21 saves to earn the victory.

Chase Witala scored and added three assists for Prince George (7-8-2), while Marc McNulty, David Soltes, Troy Bourke and Alex Forsberg also found the back of the net.

Ty Edmonds made 19 saves on 24 shots in the first two periods before being replaced by Brett Zarowny. Zarowny turned aside 16-of-17 shots in 18:04 of work,


Thunderbirds 4 Wheat Kings 2

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seth Swenson scored and added two assists for the Thunderbirds in an unruly win over Brandon.

Sam McKechnie, Shea Theodore and Erik Benoit also scored for Seattle (11-3-2), as Danny Mumaugh made 30 stops in net.

Jens Meilleur and Ryley Lindgren replied for the Wheat Kings (7-8-0). Jordan Papirny stopped 30 shots.

The two teams combined for over two hours of penalties after several fights. Brandon had 58 minutes of penalties, while the Thunderbirds had 63.
