OHL: League-leading Otters cruise past IceDogs

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Erie Otters hammered the Niagara IceDogs 7-2 for their ninth straight win in an Ontario Hockey League mismatch Thursday.

Brendan Gaunce, Dane Fox and Andre Burakovsky each had two goals for league-leading Erie (28-4-1), while Quentin Maksimovich added a single.

Brendan Perlini and Cody Caron scored for the IceDogs (8-20-4) in a five-goal first period.

Otters goaltender Oscar Dansk finished with 28 saves. In Niagara's net, Christopher Festarini was pulled after giving up three goals on six shots. He was replaced by Brent Moran, who stopped 17 shots.

BATTALION 4 COLTS 2

NORTH BAY, Ont. -- The Battalion overcame a 2-0 deficit to march past Barrie.

Barclay Goodrow scored twice and Vincent Praplan and Matt MacLeod added a goal each for North Bay (17-15-1).

Andreas Athanasiou and Kevin Labanc scored for the Colts (16-12-3).

Jake Smith made 29 saves for the Battalion, while Colts goalie Daniel Gibl stopped 24 shots.

SPITFIRES 4 PETES 2

WINDSOR, Ont. -- Alex Fontinos made 39 saves and the Spitfires' offence did the rest in a win over Peterborough.

Steven Janes and Brody Milne each scored twice for Windsor (20-10-1).

Anthony Stefano and Jonatan Tanus replied for the Petes (11-18-3).

Peterborough's Andrew D'Agostini turned away 30 shots.
