NORTH BAY, Ont. - Carter Verhaeghe scored the winner with 41 seconds to go as the Niagara IceDogs edged the North Bay Battalion 3-2 to even their first-round series at a game apiece in Ontario Hockey League playoff action on Sunday.
Jordan Maletta and Anthony DiFruscia also scored for Niagara, and Verhaeghe added an assist for a two-point night.
Nick Paul and Brenden Miller scored third-period goals for North Bay, who took Game 1 of the series 4-0 on Friday.
Niagara's Brent Moran stopped 34 shots for the win while Battalion goaltender Jake Smith made 18 saves in defeat.
GENERALS 3 STEELHEADS 2 (OT)
OSHAWA, Ont. — Cole Cassels scored a power-play goal 6:48 into overtime as Oshawa came from behind to take a 2-0 first-round series lead over Mississauga.
Josh Sterk had a power-play goal and an assist, and Bradley Latour also scored on the man advantage in regulation time for the Generals, who beat the Steelheads 6-0 in Game 1 on Friday.
Mississauga led 2-0 after goals from Brett Foy and Lucas Venuto before Oshawa stormed back. Andrew Goldberg had two assists.
Oshawa's Daniel Altshuller stopped 21 shots for the win. Steelheads goalie Spencer Martin made 35 saves in defeat.
FRONTENACS 5 PETES 4 (OT)
KINGSTON, Ont. — Roland McKeown scored on a power play 8:27 into overtime to lift the Frontenacs to a 2-0 first-round series lead over the Petes.
Robert Polesello scored twice, Sam Bennett had a goal and two assists, and Ryan Kujawinski also scored for Kingston, which took Game 1 on Friday 4-1. McKeown also had an assist for a two-point night.
Eric Cornel scored twice and Greg Betzold and Michael Clark had a goal and an assist apiece for Peterborough, which was outshot 44-29.
Matt Mahalak stopped 25 shots for the Frontenacs while Petes goalie Andrew D'Agostini made 39 saves.
