EASTBOURNE, England — Dominika Cibulkova won her second title of the year when she defeated Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic 7-5, 6-3 Saturday in the Eastbourne International final.

The match was closely contested throughout, with neither player gaining an early advantage as six of the first eight games went against serve.

Cibulkova, who was playing in her fourth final of the year after winning Katowice and finishing as runner-up in Acapulco and Madrid, eventually broke serve for a fourth time to take the opening set.

But although she broke again to lead 3-1 in the second, the 12th-seeded Slovak had to fight off two break points in the next game and another four at 4-2.

"It was extremely tough match today. With the conditions and with the wind it was really, really, really tough to play and focus", said Cibulkova after winning her sixth career title.

"I found my rhythm after a while. I knew what I had to do. I was going for my forehands and was really solid on the backhand. I was also returning pretty well. So all these things came together, and that's why I won today."

Pliskova, who was seeking her second grass-court title in three weeks after winning in Nottingham, knew she had failed to take advantage of the opportunities she had.

"I didn't do a set, but I think I had a lot of chances even in the first and even in the second set," she said. "But on the other hand she was playing really well even in the wind... she was playing aggressive and without almost mistakes. So she deserved to win."
