OTTAWA -- Bishop's Gaiters football players Luca Urbani and Vincent Plourde were given two-year suspensions Wednesday for anti-doping rules violations.

Urbani, a second-year fullback, refused to submit a sample collection to Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport personnel last March. Plourde, a first-year receiver, admitted to using the anabolic steroid Stanozolol.

Both violations occurred during out-of-competition testing missions at the school. The players waived their right to a hearing and have been dismissed from the team.

"We are disappointed by the actions of these players, as that conduct is unacceptable in our football program," Gaiters head coach Kevin Mackey said in a release.

"We hold our program to the highest possible standards, and have no place for those who would consider using performance-enhancing drugs or attempting to circumvent the CCES testing procedures."

Urbani had two receptions for 40 yards and one touchdown in nine games last season. Plourde caught three passes for 50 yards in six games.

Bishop's finished the season with a 3-6 record.
