Dion breaks FG record as Sherbrooke beats Concordia

William Dion kicked four field goals to break a Canadian university football record Saturday as the Sherbrooke Vert et Or routed the Concordia Stingers 48-6.

The fifth-year senior from Drummondville, Que., went 4-for-4 to boost his career total to 75. He came into the game tied with former Calgary all-Canadian Aaron Ifield and broke the national record with a 30-yard kick at 12:44 of the first quarter.

He added a 12-yarder in the second quarter before splitting the uprights from 15 and 11 yards out in the fourth.

Elsewhere in CIS football action, it was: No. 5 Queen's 24, Windsor 7; No. 9 Guelph 42, No. 7 Western 39; No. 10 Acadia 41, St. Francis Xavier 14; and Ottawa 34, Toronto 6.

At Montreal, Dion also had five extra points and a punt single on the afternoon to finish the game with 18 points, giving him 338 for his career.

He now ranks seventh on the all-time CIS scoring list, just two points behind active leader Matthew Falvo of the Ottawa Gee-Gees.

Falvo, also in his final year of CIS eligibility, had four field goals and 16 points on Saturday in a win against Toronto. He moved into a tie for fourth place with 69 career field goals, while his 340 points are good for sixth all-time.

Dion has three more regular season games to add to his career totals, while Falvo has two remaining.

Quarterback Jeremi Roch-Doyon went 22-for-31 for 230 yards and two touchdowns for the Vert et Or (2-3).

Keegan Treloar kicked two field goals for Concordia (2-3).

Sherbrooke will host Bishop's next Saturday while Concordia visits McGill.

No. 5 Gaels 24, Lancers 7

At Winsor, Ont., Billy McPhee threw for 210 yards, a touchdown and an interception as Queen's (5-1) defeated the Lancers (3-3).

Ryan Granberg added 193 yards rushing on 31 carries for the Gaels.

No. 9 Gryphons 42, No. 7 Mustangs 39

At Guelph, Matt Santos kicked a 27-yard field goal with 18 seconds left to play as the Gryphons (5-1) upset Western (3-3).

Santos finished with five field goals, while Guelph quarterback Jazz Lindsey threw 219 yards for three TDs.

Garret Sanvido had three touchdown receptions for the Mustangs.

Antigonish, N.S., Drew Morris returned an interception 106 yards for a touchdown early in the first quarter as Acadia (4-1) routed St. Francis Xavier (1-4).

At Toronto, Brendan Gillanders rushed for 114 yards and three touchdowns as Ottawa (1-5) hammered the Varsity Blues (2-4).
