OTTAWA (CIS) – Soccer players Kelti Biggs from the University of Alberta and Gagandeep Dosanjh from the University of British Columbia are the CIS female and male athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 7, 2012.

Biggs, a third-year physical education and recreation student from Spruce Grove, Alta., recorded back-to-back shutouts against Top-10 opponents last weekend as the fourth-ranked Pandas (5-0-3) tied No. 10 UBC 0-0 and blanked No. 2 and previously undefeated Trinity Western 2-0. On Saturday, the 5-foot-8 goalkeeper made nine saves against the Thunderbirds (6-1-2), including a critical diving stop on a 2-on-1 in the 72nd minute. The former Canada West rookie of the year was even better on Sunday when she blocked 10 shots, including a game-saving stop in the 87th minute, as Alberta handed the Spartans (8-1-0) their first loss in 22 league contests, going back to September of last year.

St. Francis Xavier rugby player Amanda Thornborough, McGill cross country runner Caroline Pfister and Waterloo soccer player Adrienne Goldsworthy were also nominated for the women's award.

Dosanjh, a third-year arts student from Abbotsford, B.C., tallied five goals and three assists in two contests this past weekend as the second-ranked Thunderbirds (8-0-0) preserved the only unblemished record in the country thanks to 6-0 and 5-1 wins over UNBC. The 5-foot-6 forward opened the two-game set on Friday with a hat trick and one helper, before adding two goals, including the game-winner, and a pair of assists in Saturday's rematch. Dosanjh currently leads the Canada West conference in goals (11), assists (7) and points (18).

Memorial cross country runner Graham MacDonald, Laval swimmer Pascal-Hugo Caron-Cantin and Ryerson soccer player Adrian Mancini were the other male nominees.
