Korissa Williams, a basketball player from the University of Windsor, and Tyler Carroll, a hockey player from the University of New Brunswick, are the CIS female and male athletes of the week for the period ending March 17, 2013.

Williams, a third-year business student from Windsor, was named MVP of the CIS women's hoops championship after the top-ranked Lancers became the fourth team in history to capture a third straight Bronze Baby Trophy. The 5-foot-9 guard scored in double digits and led all players on the court in steals in all three Lancer games last weekend, including 14 points and 4 steals in a 56-46 first-round win over Ottawa, 19 and six in an 82-65 semifinal victory against Calgary, and 13 and five in a 66-57 gold-medal triumph over tournament host Regina. Williams is a former junior national team member who represented Canada at the 2011 FIBA under-19 world championship.

Basketball players Justine Colley of Saint Mary's, Mariam Sylla of McGill and Brittany Reid of Regina were also nominated for the women's award.

Carroll, a second-year recreation and sports studies student from Strathroy, Ont., received the Major W.J. ‘Danny' McLeod Award as championship MVP after the second-seeded Varsity Reds claimed their fourth University Cup title in seven years. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound forward found the back of the net in each of the V-Reds' three wins last weekend in Saskatoon and finished with a tournament-high four goals as UNB defeated host Saskatchewan 3-1 and UQTR 8-3 in pool B action before posting a 2-0 shutout against archrival Saint Mary's in Sunday's national final. Carroll joined the V-Reds two years ago after four OHL seasons with the Guelph Storm.

Hockey players Tommy Tremblay of UQTR and Keaton Hartigan of Waterloo were the other male nominees.
