FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Cowboys receiver and return specialist Lucky Whitehead won't play against the New York Giants on Sunday night for an unspecified violation of team rules.

The team announced Saturday that Whitehead didn't make the trip for the Cowboys' rematch with the only team to beat them this season.

Whitehead has been the primary returner on punts and kickoffs, averaging 8.8 yards on 19 punt returns and 23.8 yards on 10 kickoff returns.

The speedy second-year player has two catches for 40 yards, but has been more valuable as a runner on quick handoff sweeps, with 86 yards on eight carries.

The Cowboys (11-1) can win a franchise-record 12th straight game along with the NFC East title. The Giants (8-4) beat them in the season opener. With some help, Dallas can clinch a first-round bye and possibly home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs.

Dallas was the first NFL team to clinch a playoff berth this season.
