Cubs offer contracts for next season to starters Arrieta, Wood
The Chicago Cubs have tendered contracts for next season to starting pitchers Jake Arrieta and Travis Wood, along with six other arbitration-eligible players. Arrieta was 10-5 with a 2.53 ERA in 25 starts last season. Wood struggled after making the NL All-Star team in 2013, going 8-13 with a 5.03 ERA in 31 outings.

Reliever Pedro Strop — 2-4 with a 2.21 in 65 appearances — was also tendered Tuesday along with pitcher Felix Doubront, catcher Welington Castillo, infielder Luis Valbuena and outfielders Chris Coghlan and Justin Ruggiano. A total of 30 players from the Cubs' 40-man roster were tendered contracts, including 22 who are not eligible for arbitration, on Tuesday.
Catcher John Baker and pitcher Wesley Wright were non-tendered. Chicago's 40-man roster is now at 37 players.
