ATLANTA - The Chicago Cubs have recalled rookie catcher Kyle Schwarber from Triple-A Iowa and placed catcher Miguel Montero on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained left thumb.

Schwarber, the fourth overall pick of the 2014 draft, is making his first start at catcher and hitting second in Friday night's game against the Atlanta Braves. He hit .364 with one homer and six RBI in six games with Chicago last month, including five starts as the team's designated hitter.

Asked about his first start at catcher, Schwarber said he'll be "the most confident person back there."

Montero's stint on the disabled list is retroactive to July 12. He was examined by a hand specialist in Chicago on Friday and is expected to start his rehab in Arizona this weekend.
