ERZURUM, Turkey -- Canada advanced to the quarter-finals of the world mixed doubles curling championship with a 9-2 win over Norway on Friday.

Regina's Dean Hicke and teammate Chantelle Eberle finished atop their group with a 7-0 record, but still have to play Latvia before they head to the final round Sunday.

China, Switzerland and U.S. also advanced Friday to the quarter-finals.

China (6-1) routed Norway 10-2 while Switzerland (8-0) picked up two wins, 8-6 over Germany and 7-6 over the Americans (6-1), to clinch a berth.

The U.S. earned an 8-3 win over Ireland.

There are 27 rinks competing at the event. Teams are divided into three round-robin groups -- red, blue and yellow.

The top two teams in each group qualify for the quarter-finals and the best third-place team.

Quarter-finals, semifinals and medal games will be played Sunday.
