Brive-la-Gaillarde, France (Sports Network) - The failed doping test of Luxembourg cyclist Frank Schleck has been confirmed by his B sample, the International Cycling Union said Friday.
UCI initially informed Schleck on Tuesday, an off-day for the Tour de France, that a urine sample collected from the rider last weekend showed the presence of Xipamide, a diuretic.
The cycling body will now open a disciplinary procedure against Schleck, who finished third in the Tour last year and was running 12th this year before his team, RadioShack-Nissan, pulled him from the race on Tuesday.
