After not missing a beat in his return to the bantamweight division, John Dodson and his lightning quick style are back in the Octagon as he faces John Lineker at UFC Portland on Saturday.

Speed and knockout power are a devastating combination and Dodson put both on display in April when he scored a 37 second TKO victory over Manny Gamburyan in his return to the 135 pound division.

Dodson feels comfortable back in the bantamweight mix.

“Feels amazing, shows that I can keep on knocking everyone out,” Dodson told TSN.ca.  “I’m staying on the same track as when I won Ultimate Fighter and I will continue on that track until I get a title.”

That track saw him capture the bantamweight, Ultimate Fighter title in December of 2011 and then immediately move down to flyweight where he ran through everyone in his path not named Demetrious Johnson, a fighter we’ll get to later.

In the meantime, Dodson isn’t just concentrating on his division for that gold, he has his eyes up or down for his next opportunity.

“I want to try to get as many belts as possible, doesn’t matter the weight class, I’m willing to go fight anybody,” said Dodson.  “When I get through this fight, if they want to put the interim featherweight title on the line, I’m always ready to fight.”

For now though, the challenge that will be across the Octagon comes in the form of John Lineker, a fighter on a five fight winning streak that has out punched, out grappled or out lasted the men that have failed to defeat him since his last loss in February of 2014.

For Dodson the plan is simple, be ready for anything.

“I’m expecting him to bring everything including the kitchen sink, the bathroom sink, the whole house is going to be thrown at me and hopefully some type of debris is going to land in his direction, because I know it’s going to slow him down faster than it’s going to slow me down.”

“He’s going to be super aggressive and try to penetrate with something and what every fan wants to see is a clean knockout.  I’m ok with that because he’s going to try to knock me out and I’m going to try to knock him out.”

The 32-year-old sees himself among the best of the best and with good reason considering his resume of victories since joining the UFC.  Where he goes after Portland is all a matter of who will step up to go with him and the way he sees it, no one is jumping at the chance.

“It depends on who’s willing to say yes, as soon as I beat Lineker, I just have to wait for them to give me a green light to fight,” said Dodson.  “I tried calling out Bryan Caraway, Uriah Faber, Cody Garbrandt, Aljamain Sterling, Thomas Almeida and the list goes on throughout the bantamweight division and all of those people want to fight someone else besides me, so it seems like I’m the boogieman of the division.”

Dodson believes it’s his unpredictability that makes other fighters unwilling to answer his call outs.

“It’s the fact that I’m like the Joker, you don’t really see much from this guy but he’s too crazy and he’s willing to do anything to win and that’s what people see in my eyes and they know if I’m coming into the octagon, I’m going to do everything in my power to win a fight,” said Dodson.  “Doesn’t matter if I’m going to lose an arm, a leg or my head, I will still come out on top.”

There is that matter of Demetrious Johnson, the only fighter to pin a loss on Dodson since his UFC debut has beaten him twice in his nine contests in the promotion.

The Albuquerque, New Mexico native believes there will be another chance for him to get those losses back.

“My mind is always on the fact that I lost to Demetrious Johnson, I have to make sure I prove to myself that I’m the best fighter in the world and since DJ is right now the best pound for pound fighter in the world, what better light for me to go into and shine.”
