Kyle Schwarber may be an available bat for the Chicago Cubs in the World Series, but Theo Epstein says the slugger has not been medically cleared to play the field.

According to Fox Sports’ Jon Morosi, the Cubs’ president of baseball operations said allowing Schwarber to take his regular position in left field carried “too much risk.”

Schwarber missed the majority of the season after tearing his ACL in April and was a last-minute addition to the Cubs’ lineup for the World Series against the Cleveland Indians.

He was the designated hitter for Game 1 and 2, driving in two runs in Game 2 to help the Cubs even the series at 1-1, but with the series returning to a National League park - losing the DH position - it is unlikely that Schwarber will find his way into the lineup.
