AFC West

Denver Broncos

The Broncos will be searching for their new identity with Peyton Manning under centre as the season opens and they will do so against some difficult opponents. The Broncos defence played well last season and they will be called on again in the first half of the year. If Manning and company can survive their first eight games, they will thrive down the back nine facing only two 2011 playoff teams (Baltimore, Cincinnati).

Kansas City Chiefs

Much like the Broncos, the Chiefs have a very demanding slate to start the year, followed by one of the easiest fantasy playoff dockets. Matchups with the Browns, Raiders and Colts from Week 14-16, should allow the Chiefs stars like Dwayne Bowe and Jamaal Charles to be members of several fantasy championship teams. If Bowe or Charles aren't healthy late in the season, Peyton Hillis, Steve Breaston or Jon Baldwin could be the beneficiaries.

Oakland Raiders

The Raiders have some intriguing fantasy options, but there is an added element of difficulty to their schedule. Oakland will play five of their eight road games in the Eastern time zone. West coast teams typically have difficulty with games in the East, and the Raiders haven't won a game on the opposite coast since 2009. The Raiders do have a three-game homestand late in the year that could produce nice fantasy numbers.

San Diego Chargers

There are great expectations surrounding Ryan Mathews. One of things fueling that talk is the Chargers' schedule, which is extremely favourable to the running game. Aside from a four-game stretch against 2011 playoff teams (Week 11-14), the Chargers should be able to electric slide through the first few months. Philip Rivers no longer has Vincent Jackson, but Antonio Gates is healthy and will once again be the safety valve against the blitz.
