TORONTO - Hometown favourite Sharon Fichman and Canada's second-ranked singles player Gabriela Dabrowski headline the tennis team named for next month's Pan American Games in Toronto.

Francoise Abanda, an 18-year-old from Montreal, join Toronto's Fichman and Dabrowski, an Ottawa native, on the women's team for the July 10-26 Games.

"It always means so much to me to represent Canada and being able to play for my country at the Pan Am Games in my own hometown will be an even bigger honour," Fichman, former world No. 77, said in a release. "Being on the pro tour means I rarely get to spend time at home, so the chance to compete at such a big event in front of my friends and family is so special."

Dabrowski and Fichman, who regularly play together on Canada's Fed Cup team, will team up for the women's doubles event.

Philip Bester of Burnaby, B.C., Peter Polansky of Thornhill, Ont., and Brayden Schnur of Pickering, Ont., make up the men's team. The trio has won 21 professional-level singles titles combined, while Schnur is a top-ranked NCAA player at University of North Carolina.

Polansky holds the highest-career ranking of the trio at world No. 122. Bester and Schnur will be Canada's entry in men's doubles.

Dabrowski and Bester will be Canada's mixed doubles team.

Canada will be aiming to capture its first tennis medal since the 1999 Pan Ams in Winnipeg, when Renata Kolbovic and Aneta Soukup won a bronze medal women's doubles.
