OSLO, Norway (CP) - Canada had a subpar day at the ISU junior grand prix figure skating event on Saturday with no Canadian finishing higher than third in three events.
Russia's Vladimir Uspenski took first in the men's short program competition. Joey Russell of Labrador City, N.L. placed 12th, while Edmonton's Jonathan Gugulyn finished 20th.
In the pairs free skate, Americans Kendra Moyle and Andy Seitz captured first.
Three Canadian pairs competed with Amanda Velenosi of Laval, Que., and Montreal's Mark Fernandez finishing the highest, in third spot.
The teams of Burlington, Ont.'s Carolyn Maccuish and Andrew Evans of Caledon East, Ont., finished sixth, while Sarah McCoy of Calgary and Edmonton's Aaron van Cleave placed 10th.
Estonia's Grethe Gruenberg and Kristian Rand took first in the ice dancing free dance competition.
Vanessa Crone of Aurora, Ont., and Toronto's Paul Poirer finished third, while the team of Montreal natives Alexandra Nadeau and Charles-Edouard Bouthillette placed 12th.
The men's free skate will take place on Sunday with Gugulyn and Russell competing for Canada.
