1. AL HORFORD (Celtics): So much hype about Kevin Durant's free agent decision this summer and rightfully so. If you're a fan of the Eastern Conference, this move from Atlanta to Boston strengthens one while the other has to change their style of play somewhat. I think he'll be a terrific fit for them. He's an outstanding power forward who can play both inside and out. He's got a winning personality and is an outstanding team player. Good get.

2. DWIGHT HOWARD (Hawks): Interesting addition. They've been a terrific ball movement team with no true centre and now you add Howard. He wants and needs the ball. The man can block shots, rebound and dunk it for you. If he's healthy, he can still be a force. On the other hand, he's high maintenance and will change the look of their team. I'm skeptical on this move.

3. JEFF TEAGUE (Pacers):  This club needed to perk up their offensive tempo and get a guy that can create big time in the last 5-6 seconds of the shot clock. This makes sense. Teague gets in the lane often and will get teammates easier shots. Pace of play will be a point of emphasis here, yet coach Nate McMillan has always been more of a low to medium tempo guy. They'll figure it out. Thaddeus Young and Al Jefferson are sound additions as well. This club will be improved.

4. JOAKIM NOAH (Knicks): I have always been a huge fan of his. Major league motor and competitive guy. Health has been an issue of late and that's a concern. Risk versus reward with him. He clearly improves their team if he's able to play 65-70 games. He is a versatile defender who has crafty passing instincts. Comes to play and demands the same of his teammates.

5. BORIS DIAW (Jazz): Utah lost a bunch of close games last year. What helps? Smart and polished veteran players who know how to execute under late game duress. George Hill and Joe Johnson are nice pieces who have proven track records. Diaw is so smart. I just love his understanding of the 5-on-5 team concept. Really passes it and makes the high percentage decision that helps you get a good shot. This club will miss Gordon Hayward early in the season but when they are intact and healthy, this can be an improved team; kind of like last year’s Blazers. Coach Quin Snyder has their respect and attention.
