FIVE QUICK HOOPS THOUGHTS:

1. TORONTO RAPTORS: I'd say concern is the proper word when I reflect on the state of affairs right now with this team. I've never seen Dwane Casey more frustrated in his four years as coach than I've seen now. He's done a terrific job turning this thing around and I feel for him right now. He knows precisely what the issues are and yet can't seem to get it fixed at this point. Obviously the defence is inconsistent and at times leaking oil like last night's 37 point, first quarter barrage that was dropped on them in Detroit.

I hear all this talk about an easy schedule down the stretch, with the 'D' the way it is right now; I see no 'gimmes' when you can't consistently stop folks. On top of that, the Raptor will be playing a bunch of teams with lots to play for. Forget rest and maintenance--this team has holes to patch and every opportunity to practice really hard and correct mistakes is going to be vital to shake this club out of the doldrums.  Not an easy fix.

2. NIGEL HAYES (Wisconsin): This guy has been on a tear for the Badgers in last four games, averaging 17 and 6 with four assists per game as well. Love him. He plays really hard, is undersized yet not overwhelmed. Makes winning effort plays. Solid skills with very crafty ability in the lane. Solid three-point shooter and steady defender. Frank Kaminsky deservedly gets lots of love, but this guy can really play.

3. GREGG MARSHALL (Wichita State): He has done a brilliant job as coach at this mid-major school, getting his club to the Sweet Sixteen. An amazing Final Four berth on his resume with the Shockers as well. Alabama, Arizona State & DePaul are a few of the big jobs that are open; someone is going to make a run at him as they should. He's going to cash in somewhere, he's earned it.

4. PATRICK BEVERLY (Rockets): If reports are accurate that he might miss the remainder of the season that would be a tough blow to deal with. They've been carried by James Harden in the absence of Dwight Howard, yet Beverly gives them an edge and wonderful defensive presence on the perimeter. Would take a little bite/swagger out of their persona as a team.

5. JUSTISE WINSLOW (Duke): Another terrific freshman for Coach K. Love his versatility, he does it all. Enjoyed watching him play last weekend, two very good NCAA games with a combined 19 points and 23 rebounds along with 12 assists, four steals and four blocks. He's got great athleticism, high end skills, excellent feel for the game and has a poised approach. Definitely someone to keep an eye on in the future, a real talent.
