TSN basketball analyst Jack Armstrong shares his thoughts the award spotlight shining on the Toronto Raptors, Devin Booker's impressive play and the always candid Stan Van Gundy.

1. Raptors awards: You win and people notice. Dwane Casey, DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry were all recognized this week for their work in January. Well earned and well deserved. These guys have paid the price and their hard work is paying off.

2. Portland: Always love games at the Moda Center. The fans are awesome and the team owns a great tradition with really passionate and smart supporters. What a matchup upcoming on Thursday night. DeRozan and Lowry vs. Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. Two of the most dynamic, high-scoring backcourts in the NBA. I can't wait.

3. Devin Booker (Suns): Wow. Just saw him in person for first time here in Phoenix. He's a legit big time prospect. He’s explosive and has a tremendous shooting touch with nice elevation. He uses screens and has quick release. Booker not only has the look of a young star but he's got a chance to be one if he puts the time in. I’m impressed.

4. Nikola Jokic (Nuggets): Jokic is another young player who I was very impressed with in Denver. He’s a high-energy, big who can finish in the lane and has a sweet touch. Jokic shows excellent second effort and runs the floor very well. He’s fluid and skilled with soft hands and he’s got the tools to be a keeper for this franchise that needs some building blocks.

5. Stan Van Gundy (Pistons): I find his candour, humour, honesty and total transparency to be a refreshing presence when you get so much 'coach speak' from many/most in the NBA. He's an excellent coach who is making great strides in year two with this young team. His guys improve while playing for him and play with great energy. He is also always prepared and sharp with in game adjustments. Just like in Miami and Orlando, he'll get the most out of his talent level.
