Tallahassee, FL - Florida State has announced a new eight-year contract extension for head football coach Jimbo Fisher.

The 49-year-old, who has guided the Seminoles since 2010, is now under contract through the 2022 season. His new deal, announced Tuesday, includes a salary increase which will make him one of the highest-paid coaches in the FBS.

Following in the footsteps of the legendary Bobby Bowden, Fisher has racked up a 58-10 overall record which includes a 34-6 mark in the ACC, and has presided over four consecutive bowl victories.

"I am pleased that we have been able to secure Coach Fisher as our head coach for the long term," said FSU director of athletics Stan Wilcox. "The commitment we are making to him is a reflection of the outstanding job he has done in leading our program to its current level of excellence. While we are delighted with the undefeated season this year and our upcoming appearance in the inaugural College Football Playoff, we began working on this new contract before the success of this past season was in full view. It is a great day for Florida State."

Heading into the aforementioned playoff, Florida State holds a 13-0 record and has won 29 consecutive games dating back to a November 2012 loss to Florida, including last season's victory over Auburn in the BCS Championship Game.

The Seminoles take on Oregon in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day, and with a victory will head to the national championship game against the winner of the Alabama-Ohio State Sugar Bowl on January 12.

"I am honored to be the head coach at Florida State University, which I've said many times before," Fisher said. "I appreciate that FSU believes in what we are doing and supports our goal of maintaining one of the best programs in the country. It is a privilege to coach the young men in our program. It is truly a family."
