Canada's national junior team gets its first taste of pre-tournament action tonight when it faces Team Russia at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto.

You can watch all the action on TSN1 and TSN4 and listen to full coverage on the TSN Radio Network beginning at 7pm et/4pm pt.

Several jobs remain at stake for Team Canada with 26 players in camp and a deadline of Christmas Day to get down to a final roster of 22.

Canada currently has two goaltenders, eight defencemen and 16 forwards at selection camp. According to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie, Canada is likely to cut one more defenceman and three forwards.

Zachary Fucale will get the start in goal against Russia, with fellow netminder Eric Comrie of the Tri-City Americans set to see action on Sunday against Sweden in Ottawa (TSN2, 7pm et/4pm pt).

Canadian star forward Connor McDavid, who has recovered from a broken hand, will be held out of the game against Russia.

Hockey Canada received some good news on Thursday when it learned that the Ottawa Senators would lend forward Curtis Lazar to the squad. The 19-year-old had three goals and four assists in seven games at last year's World Junior tournament and has appeared in 27 games during a strong rookie season for the Senators.

According to McKenzie, Lazar and Sam Reinhart are the two main candidates to be named captain of Team Canada. Lazar will not play Friday night against Russia.

After Sunday's game against Sweden, Canada will close out the pre-competition schedule against Switzerland in Montreal on Tuesday (TSN1, TSN4, TSN5, 7pm et/4pm pt).

Canada opens the World Junior Championship on Boxing Day in Montreal against Slovakia (TSN1, TSN3, TSN4, TSN5, 7:30pm et/4:30pm pt).

You can also watch the Czech Republic vs. Finland and USA vs. Boston University pre-tournament games tonight exclusively on TSN.ca and TSN GO at 7:30pm et/4:30pm pt.
