NEW YORK, N.Y. - Calgary Flames left-winger Johnny Gaudreau was named NHL Rookie of the Month for March on Wednesday.

He led all rookies with 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) in 15 games, to edge Ottawa Senators right-winger Mark Stone. Stone had four goals and 11 assists in 16 games in March.

Boston Bruins teammates Ryan Spooner (7-7-14 in 15 games) and David Pastrnak (3-10-13 in 15 games), Carolina Hurricanes centre Victor Rask (3-8-11 in 15 games), and Anaheim Ducks goaltender John Gibson (6-2-0, 2.50 goals-against average and .918 save percentage) were also considered for the honour.

Gaudreau, a fourth-round selection by the Flames in the 2011 NHL Draft, recorded at least one point in 10 of his 15 March appearances, highlighted by four multi-point games. He is in first place in rookie scoring with 22 goals and 38 assists.

Gaudreau also earned the rookie of the month award in December.
