EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - The New York Giants have signed former Indianapolis Colts defensive back Josh Gordy.

The Giants announced the signing Wednesday in a move that might offer them some help at their depleted safety position.

New York lost safety Antrel Rolle to free agency. Stevie Brown and Quintin Demps are still free agents, leaving Nat Berhe and Cooper Taylor as the only safeties on the roster.

A six-year veteran, Gordy has played in 59 regular-season games with 11 starts — eight at cornerback, one at free safety and two as an extra defensive back. He has 103 tackles, five interceptions, 12 passes defenced and one sack in the regular season, and eight tackles and a pass defended in the playoffs.

Gordy debuted in the NFL late in the 2010 season with the Green Bay Packers. The Central Michigan product played for the Rams in 2011 and was traded to the Colts in 2012 for a draft choice, where he has spent the past three seasons.

The Giants also signed linebacker Ryan Jones of Montana Tech. He was originally signed as a free agent by the Baltimore Ravens in May 2013 and waived/injured a month later with a foot injury.
