VICTORIA - Skip Brad Gushue is 2 for 2 this season against Reid Carruthers when a Grand Slam of Curling title is on the line.

Team Gushue defeated Team Carruthers on Sunday in the Elite 10 championship, following a decisive draw to the button shootout.

Gushue and his rink from St. John's, N.L., also toppled Winnipeg's Carruthers in the final at the 2015 National.

"It was stressful. We don't do anything the easy way. We were two up and kind of let it slip and let it go to the draw to the button," said Gushue.

"I felt confident I could put it in there but with everything at stake, it is still a pretty nerving shot. Fortunately, we put it on the button and got the win."

Gushue takes home $27,500 of the $100,000 purse for claiming the Elite 10 crown.

The Elite 10 featured nine of the top men's teams in the world as well as women's world No. 1 Rachel Homan and her team from Ottawa.

The next Grand Slam of Curling event is the Players' Championship, April 12-17 in Toronto.
