ST. MORITZ, Switzerland - Lara Gut won the season-long super-G title on Thursday, finishing second behind Tina Weirather at the World Cup finals and overtaking the injured Lindsey Vonn for the crystal globe.

The overall champion from Switzerland was only 19 points behind Vonn heading into the final race and needed to finish at least sixth to surpass the American, who injured her knee in a crash in a super-G in Andorra last month.

Gut finished 0.41 seconds behind Weirather on the Corviglia slope, with Cornelia Huetter third, 0.59 seconds off the pace.

"It's been a long season, a lot of ups and downs. I'm happy it's almost over and that I was able to win again the super-G title," Gut said. "It wasn't as easy as two years ago. Then the season started so great and I was dominating in super-G. This time I was fighting for every point."

Huetter finished fourth in the super-G standings, just behind Vonn, who was in St. Moritz after flying in to pick up her downhill title on Wednesday.

Gut was more than a half second slower than Weirather at the halfway point, but she improved on the latter half of the slope to finish second.

"We are skiers. When you go to the start you want to win," Gut said. "Just because I have the overall I don't see why I should be happy and stop wanting to win. I just want to go fast."

Weirather recorded her second World Cup victory of the season. She won another super-G in La Thuile, Italy, on Feb. 21.

"It was a tough day, the course was not easy," Weirather said. "You could see that from the first nine girls and even the guys having problems, it was not easy to risk a lot but still stay on course."

Seven skiers did not finish on the tricky course, including five of the first eight racers.
