The Montreal Canadiens have locked up one of their own ahead of the free agency opening Wednesday.

The team announced it has signed forward Brian Flynn to a two-year, $1.9 million contract.

Flynn, 26, was acquired by the Habs from the Buffalo Sabres at the Trade Deadline last season. He combined to score five goals and 17 points in 63 games last year.

Flynn's contract will count $950,000 against the salary cap.

"A fast, versatile and reliable player, Brian bought into the team's philosophy from the very first day," general manager Marc Bergevin said in a statement. "He brings the right attitude to the dressing room day in and day out and has a professional approach to the game."

For his career, the Lynnfield, Mass., native has 17 goals and 41 points in 168 NHL games.
