BERLIN - Hamburger SV drew 1-1 with Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Sunday but was left to rue missed chances as it remained in the relegation zone.

Hoffenheim forward Anthony Modeste opened the scoring on a counterattack in the 15th minute, shooting though Jaroslav Drobny's legs after Lewis Holtby lost the ball in midfield.

The home side regrouped and Pierre-Michel Lasogga equalized with a powerful shot past Oliver Baumann in the 34th.

Roberto Firmino struck the post from distance in the 55th for Hoffenheim, the closest either side came to scoring in the second half.

Baumann denied Lasogga and then gathered the rebound from Nicolai Mueller in the 64th, minutes before Lasogga went close from a free kick.

Paderborn was hosting Eintracht Frankfurt later.
