Forward Dave Bolland hasn't played or practiced in more than a month, as he continues to deal with lingering injuries. One of those ailments is believed to be an ankle problem that goes back to the severed tendon he suffered as a member of the Maple Leafs in 2013. The Leafs remained off ice Friday. Mike Babcock was in a rather quotable mood:

On the job scrutiny Michel Therrien is facing: "Lots of people say lots of things. If they sit at your kitchen table or go to your lakehouse in the summer worry about it. Other than that get on with your day."

On P.A. Parenteau: "Basically one day I had a chat with him. I said ‘What do you want? Do you want this to be the last stop or you want to keep playing? Because if you want to keep playing you better get working. If you want to work and you want to compete hard and you want to back-check and you want to be good without the puck and you want to take care of the puck you’re going to get to play. And if not you’re going to be mad at another coach. You decide.’ He’s been excellent."

Added this on Parenteau: "He should’ve won the game last night in overtime. He had it on his stick with a screen and everything. He’s saving that one (winks in reference to upcoming matchup with Parenteau's former team).

On his blunt approach with players: "To me that’s what love is. Love isn’t pretending it’s going good when it’s not. Love is making people accountable and helping them get better."
