Pittsburgh Penguins

Superstar forward Evgeni Malkin will miss Friday night's clash against the New Jersey Devils, head coach Mike Sullivan confirmed Friday morning after practice. The 30-year-old has 33 goals and 39 assists over 62 games this season with the Penguins. - Team Tweet

Veteran winger Patric Hornqvist hasn't played since March 5 due to a concussion, but says he is now symptom-free and will be a game-time decision for Friday's game. The 30-year-old has 17 goals and 20 assists over 58 games in 2016-17, his third season in Pittsburgh. - Sam Werner, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Pens recalled former first-round pick Derrick Pouliot from the American Hockey League on Friday. The 23-year-old defenceman has six goals and 12 assists over 35 games in the minors this season, including a four-point effort in a game last week. He has two goals and 12 helpers over 64 games in the NHL, including eight contests this season. Pittsburgh selected him eighth overall in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. The move could be a result of veteran defenceman Ron Hainsey leaving Wednesday's clash against the Philadelphia Flyers with an injury. Tampa Bay Lightning

Lightning captain Steven Stamkos practiced with the team on Friday wearing a regular season. The 27-year-old has been out since mid-November with a knee injury. TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie reports it's highly unlikely he returns during the regular season, but has a chance to play in the postseason should Tampa make it. - Joe Smith, Tampa Bay Times 

In other Lightning news, injured centres Tyler JohnsonVladislav Namestnikov and Cedric Paquette won't play against the Caps while head coach Jon Cooper said he wasn't sure if Ondřej Palát and Jake Dotchin will be able to go. - Joe Smith, Tampa Bay Times

 

Ottawa Senators

The team sent down goalie Chris Dreidger, meaning Craig Anderson will be able to play a backup role for the Sens this weekend. Ottawa hosts the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday followed by a clash with the Habs Sunday at the Bell Centre. - Bruce Garrioch, Ottawa Sun

 

New York Rangers

Jesper Fast will play Friday against the Florida Panthers, as per head coach Alain Vigneault. Fast has been out since Feb. 28 with a separated shoulder. - Team Tweet

 

Arizona Coyotes

Captain Shane Doan left Thursday's game against the Detroit Red Wings with an injury and did not return. Following the game, head coach Dave Tippett said the 40-year-old is day-to-day with a lower-body injury while defenceman Luke Schenn is also out day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Doan has six goals and 19 assists over 70 games with the Coyotes this season. - Dave Vest, Coyotes

 

Dallas Stars

After taking a hit and getting into a fight with Vancouver Canucks defenceman Nikita Tryamkin, Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn was forced to leave Thursday's game in Vancouver. The Stars are in Calgary to battle the Flames on Friday and are not sure if Benn will be ready to go. "It's just upper body, we'll assess him for tomorrow's game in the morning," head coach Lindy Ruff told the Dallas Morning News. Boston Bruins 

Forward Matt Beleskey was hit in the head by a Patrice Bergeron shot late in Thursday's loss to the Edmonton Oilers. Head coach Bruce Cassidy hopes the 28-year-old will be fine, but didn't have an update following the game. “He’s a hard-nosed kid. Hopefully he’s all right,” Cassidy told The Boston Globe. “That’s very unfortunate for him. I don’t know what else to say. Hopefully he’ll be fine.” - The Boston Globe

 

Washington Capitals

The Caps sent down centre Jakub Vrana to the AHL on Friday which means talented young forward Andre Burakovsky is ready to return to action. The 22-year-old has been out since early February with a hand injury, but will play Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning. -  Isabelle Khurshudyan, Washington Post
