Vegas Golden Knights

The Golden Knights announced that they have signed free-agent defenceman Zach Whitecloud to a three-year, entry-level deal.

He is expected to join the Golden Knights Friday in Buffalo ahead of their Saturday afternoon matchup with the Sabres.

"He’s a very well-rounded player, a highly sought-after defenceman by a lot of clubs and we are delighted to acquire him as our first college signing," general manager George McPhee said.

In 36 games for Bemidji State University, he had four goals and 14 assists.

Whitecloud also suited up for Team Canada in the 2017 Karjala Cup, where he had one assist in two games.

Winnipeg Jets

Forward Mark Scheifele is considered day-to-day with an upper-body injury and will not play Thursday against the New Jersey Devils. Head coach Paul Maurice said there is no structural damage.

He was not on the ice for the Jets Thursday morning.

During the first period of Tuesday's win over the New York Rangers, Scheifele and teammate Blake Wheeler collided in the neutral zone. Both remained in the game but Scheifele appeared shaken up and eventually left in the second period following hits from Rob O’Gara and Marc Staal.

After the game, Maurice said the injury was not related to the upper-body injury that kept the 24-year-old out for 16 games earlier in the season. Since returning on Feb. 9, Scheifele has six goals and seven assists in 12 games.

In 50 games this season, he has 21 goals and 30 assists for a Jets team sitting second in the Central Division with 89 points.

Meanwhile, goaltender Steve Mason is also considered day-to-day after sustaining a lower-body injury in practice. Michael Hutchinson is on his way to New Jersey as a backup according to TSN Radio 1290's Brian Munz. Connor Hellebuyck is expected to start.

New Jersey Devils

Left winger Brian Gibbons is set to make his return Thursday night against the Winnipeg Jets following a thumb injury. He has not played since Jan. 20.

In 45 games, he has 12 goals and 23 points.

Meanwhile, Devils forward Pavel Zacha will not play Thursday night, according to NHL.com's Amanda Stein.

Zacha did not skate Wednesday morning and is dealing with an upper-body injury, Stein reports.

The 20-year-old centre has six goals and 13 assists in 60 games for the Devils this season.

St. Louis Blues

Injured forward Nikita Soshnikov skated Wednesday and could return from a neck injury Thursday night against the San Jose Sharks. He has not played since Feb. 28.

The 24-year-old has zero points in six games so far this season. He was acquired by the Blues in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2019.
