MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact signed Argentine defender Victor Cabrera to a multi-year contract Saturday.

The move comes after Cabrera's transfer with Argentine club River Plate was completed.

"We are really happy to bring Victor Cabrera back," Impact technical director Adam Braz said in a statement. "He was able to integrate quickly with the team and played an important and consistent role in the team's success in both Champions league and MLS."

The 22-year-old Cabrera played 21 games last season, including 20 starts. He also helped Montreal reach the CONCACAF Champions League Final against Mexico's Club America, recording one goal and an assist in four appearances in the knockout stage.
