(SportsNetwork.com) - The Cleveland Indians hope to stay in the AL Central hunt and will begin an eight-game road trip Tuesday in the opener of a quick two-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field.

The Indians will also make stops in Seattle and Los Angeles, and were swept in a three-game series at home versus the Detroit Tigers this weekend. The Indians suffered a 10-4 loss on Sunday, as Josh Tomlin failed to outduel Max Scherzer on the mound and permitted eight runs -- five earned -- in four innings.

Scherzer threw six innings of one-run ball to improve to 9-3.

"They're one of those teams that they can show up and win on talent," Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis said of the Tigers. "They have players that are that good. When you have Victor (Martinez) and Miggy (Cabrera), you're going to have good at-bats and you're going to get runs."

Detroit outscored Cleveland by a 21-12 margin.

Michael Brantley had three hits and three RBI to lead the Tribe, while Asdrubal Cabrera ended with two hits and drove in a run. Yan Gomes added two hits for Cleveland, which has lost eight of 12 games after winning nine of 10.

Justin Masterson looks to pitch the Tribe back on track when he toes the rubber Tuesday. Masterson is 4-5 with a 4.75 ERA and 2-4 in his previous six decisions. He did not factor in the outcome of a 5-3 win over the LA Angels last Thursday and limited the visitors to a run in seven innings.

Masterson, who has allowed eight earned runs in four starts this month, is 1-4 in eight road starts and the right-hander has made one career start against the Diamondbacks back on June 24, 2008. As a rookie with the Boston Red Sox, Masterson was reached for four runs in six innings of a 5-4 win over the D- backs and did not figure into the decision.

Arizona will begin the final leg of its nine-game homestand (2-5) and lost two of three over the weekend to the rival San Francisco Giants. In a 4-1 loss on Sunday, the visiting Giants rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning on RBI hits from Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford and Joe Panik.

Mike Bolsinger suffered the tough-luck loss in the start, charged with only a run and five hits across 7 2/3 innings.

"I came up, had a little success, went down and now I'm coming back," Bolsinger said of his journey with the D-backs this season. "I just want to keep rolling with it."

Martin Prado had one of Arizona's three hits and drove in the only run. Paul Goldschmidt walked twice to reach base in his 16th consecutive game.

Wade Miley hasn't tasted victory since May 10 against the Chicago White Sox and draws the start Tuesday. He is 0-3 in his last seven outings and has posted three straight no-decisions, including last Wednesday's 4-3 win over Milwaukee. He gave up three runs in 7 2/3 innings and is 3-6 with a 4.62 ERA.

Miley, a left-hander, has never faced Cleveland and is only 1-5 with a 5.40 ERA in nine home assignments this season.

The D-backs are 5-7 all-time against the Indians and have lost five of the previous six meetings between the teams. Cleveland won two of three games against Arizona from June 27-29, 2011 at Chase Field.
