The New York Islanders announced that they have placed goaltender Thomas Greiss on the injured reserve list with a lower-body injury retroactive to Feb. 16.

Christopher Gibson has been recalled from Bridgeport on an emergency basis. "I don’t want to speak out of turn. Certainly lower-body injuries for goalies are a little tougher to decipher. Hopefully he can get back quick," head coach Doug Weight said.

Weight said yesterday that Greiss "tweaked something" and someone would be called up if he couldn't dress Monday.

“He just tweaked something. We’re going to have it looked at and make a final ruling here moving forward. We’re prepared for anything. Obviously Bridgeport is close so if we need to do something for tomorrow we’ll be fine," Weight said.

Greiss did not skate with the team on Sunday. Jaroslav Halak will start in net Monday for the Isles' matinee against the Minnesota Wild.

In 24 games this season, Greiss is 11-7 with a GAA of 3.84 and a save percentage of .891.

The Islanders will be back in action Thursday in Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs.
